ILC workshops in DR Congo - May 2010

In the past few weeks, two decisive workshops were organized in DRC by the Initiative pour un leadership cohésif (an IRÉNÉ/ WWICS partnership). The first retreat took place from 18 to 22 May in the Lubero region with leaders and notables from the local communities, following on from the workshops organized for the Masisi communities (November 2009) and the Rutshuru ones (January 2010). An interparliamentary meeting, gathering Congolese and Rwandan members of Parliament and senators, then took place from 26 to 28 May at Gisenyi, in Rwanda. This informal retreat enabled unconstrained exchanges, far from the usual diplomatic processes, on crucial issues about the security of both countries. It was thus a decisive step towards a continued dialogue between Congolese and Rwandan representatives, paired with hope of a renewed cooperation.
